Conventions of the thriller/horror genre

Mise-en-scene
  • Body bags
  • Dark Lighting, builds up tension for the audience
  • Fair Light/Rides
  • Red Balloons - Adds danger to the audience

  • Screams
  • Children Laughing in the fair
  • Phone Ringing
  • Sirens, Asynchronus, adds danger to the audience
  • Eerie music - builds up tension for the audience

  • Policemen,more dominant than other characters, stereotypical for them
Editing:
  • Flashes into each shot
  • Uses a lot of fades to black

Blair Witch Project

  • teenagers go off into the woods to try and find out if the "Blair Witch" is real
  • While out in the woods they get kidnapped and killed

Located in woods - stereotypical as this is where most people get killed in horror and thriller film.
